What a great day. Having had to cancel the Drive Ins for the last two years it was brilliant to at last celebrate this wonderful club tradition. We were rewarded with a beautiful day and the Captains - all four - Captain Denis, Lady Captain Helena and Junior Captains Alex and Jodi arrived in glorious sunshine and in great style. There was a great turnout of members to welcome and celebrate with the Captains. As usual there was a theme for the arrival - James Bond's Casino Royal. The Captains were suitably decked in Black Tie and evening gowns.
Following the champagne reception there was a brief sojourn to the clubhouse while the Captains planted a tree at the 11th hole and prepared for the Drive In. Lollipops to mark the hopeful landing spots for the drives were sold by Lollipop Ladies -Ann Gavin, Mary Phelan and Mary Cassidy and a whopping €524 was raised in aid of The Captains' Charity - Motor Neurone Disease. The Captains and their guests then retired to the restaurant for an excellent dinner served by Aidan and his crew. After dinner and the formal speeches live music was provided by Liam Tierney followed by DJ Diarmuid Golden. The craic continued until the early hours.
A big thank you to all who attended and especially to those who helped to make the day happen. I know that Gerry Rooney and Martin Farrell will have been particularly respectful of the Dublin colours as they dutifully decorated the clubhouse. Thank you also to Mary Bannon for all the wonderful photos.
